In 2015, Whitefield Baptist Church celebrates our 175th year as a church dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We feel so blessed to be so old… and so young. With the Lord’s help, we have grown from 11 original members to being “that big church across the street from the Jockey Lot”. We are humbled as we look back across our rich history to all of the saints that have given to this ministry. We stand on their shoulders as we look forward to what God is going to do in us and through us for the next 175 years!
As we celebrate with many events throughout the year, we will be adding all kinds of fun facts to our website about the history of our church. In addition to this page, we will be posting regularly on all of our social media outlets with several ongoing series:
“Did You Know?”
Whether you are young or old, we can assure you that this series will surprise you with some interesting stories from our church’s history.
Each Saturday, we feature a different story about a veteran from our church (past and present) who has served in the military.
Most of our 175 year anniversary related posts on Instagram and Twitter will be tagged with the “#wbc175” hashtag. We invite you to post your photos from any of our events this year and tag them!
We have many events planned to commemorate this wonderful milestone in the life of our church. We will do our best to keep this page up to date as they are announced, however, remember to check out our church calendar for information about everything we have scheduled this year!
Commemorative Christmas Ornament
If your family did not receive their Christmas ornament during our Homecoming Service, you may contact Pastor Bob to secure one.
Due to high demand, we are planning to make an additional order for those of you who would like to purchase an ornament. You may order yours here.
Homecoming Service Photos, Audio & Video
We were so excited about the success of our homecoming service! It was wonderful to see so many past and present members of the Whitefield family again! If you would like to see photos from the event, you can find them in the album on our Facebook page. If you would like to listen to the audio of the service, you can access it on our Sermon Audio page (permalink here). We are also working on a video recording of the service. We will follow up with details for how to view (or secure a copy of) the video. Thanks to all who attended and worked hard to make it happen!SEE PAST EVENTS
On September 27, 2015 we will host a “Homecoming” service for all past/present members of the WBC family. Everyone is invited… we urge you to bring your entire family to celebrate all that God has done through the 175 year ministry of Whitefield Baptist Church!
The service will begin at 10:15am but will be preceded by a slide show of historical photos -compiled by our Church History Team- at 10:00am.
Former WBC Pastor Clarence Howard will deliver the message and we will have some special music performed by former WBC Music Minister Sam Dickerson. Our choir will lead us in worship and there will be a time of special recognition of other former staff & their families.
Following the service, we will be hosting a “covered dish” church-wide meal at the FLC/Gym with singing into the afternoon.
There will be no evening services.
Please use the hashtag #wbc175 with any pictures/posts/tweets you publish related to the event… we want everyone to be able to share in the excitement!
Even though we do this every year, we are especially excited about this year’s freedom celebration. Click here for all the info!
Each week, during the entire month of June, we will be bringing in special guests for our Sunday services. Some are former pastors who are coming back to speak (or sing), while others are some of our long-standing ministry partners.
